I love an old piece of stamp art, and how much better an elaborately decorated milk glass plate than a postcard, and even better such a pure piece of Americana as this! Quite a feat of labor and creativity--just look at that marvelous flag, with all those tiny 1's and 2's making the pole and field of stars, and then this perimeter ring formed by carefully cut "United States" arches. With little heads of Washington and Lincoln and a few others I'm sure I should know but don't, and a pig stirring up some sort of potion, too (perhaps meant to be the mastermind behind the whole American experiment!) Also a Native American chief framed inside a diamond extending from the head of Washington, which feels to me like pointed critique. As good an example as I've seen, quite a thing.
8 1/2" in diameter. Very good condition, no losses to collage, and every bit well adhered. Very early 20th century.
