A very curious one! Whether done by a biblical scholar or just a very very devoted Christian I am not entirely sure, but this notebook, purchased from a seller near Lancaster, PA, features 34 full page genealogical diagrams (family trees essentially, including a few literal ones) tracing lineages from Adam and Eve to the birth of Jesus Christ! Of course it's the very folky drawings on a number of the pages that first drew me in-- Adam and Eve engaged in the hand-off of the apple on the first page, wild animals to either side of them, skull at their feet, and "the strength of sin is the law" written on a banner swirling around Eve like a snake. Later, Noah's Arc, and the banquet at Lot's house with angels flanking and pillar of salt above captioned "Remember Lot's Wife," Jacob in Egypt, etc etc. With suns and moons and birds and architectural flourishes of all sorts decorating the very comprehensive diagrams, including joined hands denoting marriages and crowns for royalty.
A little research reveals that these pages were based on an early biblical geneology included in early editions of the King James Bible--c. 1610s--to which the maker of this notebook, early-mid 19th century I believe, had to have had access.
10 x 7 5/8". 18 pages, all but first two filled front and back (34 pages faces full.) Photos document many but not all pages, in order, except for a couple of favorite details right at beginning of photos. Very good condition, a mix of graphite and ink on wove. Photos do no justice--it is definitely an intimate thing, inviting close looking, but with effort (some of the text is tiny!) pretty much entirely readable.
