Alura Talking Machine, Antique Phonograph Disc Reproducer

Regular price $35.00

I'm not the least bit knowledgable about old phonographs, but know this is a  "reproducer" disc, the function of which was/is to convert the sound impressions from the record into sound waves. Coming across it the other day in Maine, I just loved seeing the words "talking machine" in perfect sans serif capital letters, and all the better combined with "Alura" and two stars in between. The first thing it made me think of, actually, was artificial intelligence, and the film Her, specifically--the allure of the talking machine endures.

3 1/8" x 2 5/16" x 1 3/8". General wear, surface scratching, etc.; I don't know if usable still but a pretty cool object I think, which could be stuck in a stand or mounted to the wall via the rounded piece on reverse. The Alura Talking Machine was made by The Austin Co. in Rhode Island, circa 1920.
