A nice old needlepoint, mid 19th century I believe, in period frame, original to it it appears. Executed in hand-dyed wool, with petit point (tiny stitches) used for the face of the boy (with excellent pinked cheeks.) And quite the little master he appears, waving his whip overhead--but clearly his very sweet looking giant dog companion could trounce him if desired, so I take this as a portrait of mis-guided youthful hubris!
8 1/2" x 7 3/4" framed; original frame and glass. A few small patches of loss to the wool, minor and not at all detracting. Original glass, wonderful 19th c. frame painted black with lemon gold interior border.
