A wonderful small carved and painted mallard, with the head carved of a separate piece of wood and fitted into the body. (There is a bit of wiggle to it, but it remains attached.) Terrific old paint, and the rich dry wood patina to the unpainted underside tells us it is quite an old one. That little patch of light blue amid the softened black and white on either side makes me especially happy. A very sweet thing.
5 5/8" x 2 1/8" x 3" t and in good condition, early 20th c. I would guess. Good overall condition with bit of paint loss and wiggle around the neck where the head meets the body.
